Hello Everyone!!

It's been a while since my last post but I've been so busy with personal matters.

Today I wanted to share the calendar that I created for the International Art Doll Registry group. I had the pleasure of creating their 2011 member calendar which included more than 90 art dolls from artists all over the world.

The Gift of Sharing this Holiday Season!

This year my family and I are participating for the first time in The Pink Slipper Project. The PSP was founded by Joyce Lucas and it has been a marvelous success now for its second year.

The particular project that we are participating in consists of making Christmas Stocking for those children that are living in shelters with their mothers this Holiday Season. If you don't do Christmas, remember that you can also help by making slippers ;)

So we got to work to make these special gifts...

It's very important to teach the younger ones that the Holidays is a special time of the year to share with others that are in need. Here you can see my niece Vianca cutting away the pieces of fabric so the adults can put them together.

It's never too early to learn....here's Baby Yazmin with a piece of fabric already cut by Vianca.

And after so much work here are the end results.

Five children will have a great surprise this year's Christmas morning :)

Into the box they go to their new destination.

It has been such a joy to make these small gifts. My heart is filled with joy with just the thought that we were able to make a small difference this year.

October is here!!! So much planning to do...

I can't believe October is here already!!

It seemed like a lifetime away when 2010 started, now it's here and I can't wait to start planning for all of the fun things that usually happen in October.

Once again this year I put my 'thinking stockings' on and started brain storming. I have so much to do this year again....

So while I sit here with my feet propped up on my small doll bench I start working on some of the decorations for the 'Halloween Party' hosted by Vanessa Valencia from a Fanciful Twist October 16th, 2010.

For this years' theme I have chosen 'Pumpkin Bash', I think it's appropriate since pumpkins are all in at this time of year and orange is such a delightful color.

So.....

Here is a sneak peek at what I'm working on. I'm using balloons and yarn to create the cutest pumpkin themed decorations.

You are probably wondering...what in the world is she going to make with those?!

But I won't tell...sshhhh

Fall Silk Arrangement Tutorial for the Holidays...

Today I'm going to demonstrate how I make one of my decorations around the Holidays.

Have you ever wanted to have a beautiful table piece but when you go out there the price is just out of your league. Well, today I will teach you how to make a beautiful silk Fall Table Piece that anyone can do at home with very little money. If you would go out there to buy a piece like this one you would spend anywhere from $100 - $185.

The materials you will need.

1) 4 Ft. Pre-Lighted Christmas Tree with Decorative Pot

(You can buy these at the Dollar Store for $20 or so)

2) 10 decorative pumpkins

(these are sold at the dollar store as well)

3) 2 rolls of ribbon

(buy at dollar store too)

4) 15 Fall silk flower bunches

(dollar store)

5) A few strands of Raffia

-----------------------------------------

Total estimated cost = $55

First open your tree just like of you were going to hand ornaments on it. When your tree is fully opened then proceed to bend the tips upward and in towards the trunk on the tree. Do this until you see a uniformed shape that you like. For mine I did it so it can look rather skinny and very full.

Your second step is to get the ribbon and start threading it throughout the branches. I always step back a bit and check to make sure I arrange the ribbon equally throughout so it won't look empty on some sides.

Once your ribbon is in place then start inserting the silk bunches throughout once again taking a step back to make sure you have them spaced accordingly.

Then add the decorative pumpkins.

And to fish it off place a few strands of raffia at the top letting them hand on the sides and back.

I placed my silk arrangement on a table that I have at the side entrance of my front door. This arrangement is always a topic of conversation when I have company over. It's one of the main focal points in living room.

You can also use this technique to make any sort of arrangements from Holiday to Parties.

I took these photos of my friends to capture the special moment of being pregnant with their first baby girl. For these pages I used pre-designed pages and some designs of my own using Storybook Creator Plus 3.0.

For a limited time before the Holiday Season starts I'm offering my services for those that don't have the time to scrapbook or just don't want to invest in the software.

I can create that special album for you!! Yes, that's right!

I will be taking a limited amount of commissions to create the album that's right for you.

How does it work?

Via email/chat we get together and discuss the project and what you want.

Then via email I send you proofs of how the pages look. After your approval I then create a link where you can order the album or albums if you want more than one copy. It's really that simple!! Not only that, you keep the link and can order at whatever time you like for extra copies whenever you want.

I will keep the Storybook copy in my records for further use whenever you need it as well.

If you are interested in me creating a Storybook for you please send me an email and we can discuss the labor fees on my part.

Are you getting ready for Halloween 2010?

I wonder how many of you out there are getting ready for Halloween? Picking costumes, party decor, or simply making all sort of marvelous Halloween Art for the Bewitching Hour.

Halloween is one of my favorite Holidays which I look forward to every year. The costumes and sweets just top my cake, making it a great way to have fun with family and friends.

This year I plan on coming up with a few items for sale at my Etsy shop and eBay; hopefully I will be able to meet my own deadline :P

Mischievous Caterpillars!!

Well this is a very funny story. You see my brother planted about ten tomato plants in our backyard. Mind you he's not the type to be gardening, so when he announced one day that he was planting tomatoes we were quite surprised. So he went on and planted the seeds, watered the plants every other day to make sure that they didn't get too much water and so on. It turns out that the plants were growing up very nicely. They were healthy with a beautiful green color, showing signs that everything was going like it was supposed to.

Three days ago he went outside to check on them and he noticed that one of the plants was almost gone. He was what the heck!!

Then he noticed that the plant beside it was also missing some parts too.
At closer inspection he noticed that it turns out that the plant was serving as a restaurant for a family of Caterpillars. Man can these little guys eat!!

The first picture that I posted makes me think of manatees for some reason. I think it's because of the shape of their heads.

I went online and did a search to see what type of caterpillars they were. This has been my first encounter with them so I was totally lost as to where to begin.

After a few minutes I came across with what I was looking for.

It turns that their name is Manduca Sexta; they are most commonly known as Tobacco Hornworm.

This one is the smallest of them all.

This one is the largest. I just love the colors on them, and when you look closely you can see little round designs that to me look like teeny tiny eyes.

When they are adults, they turn into beautiful moths. Here is a photo of an adult Maduca Sexta.

This is so true!!! Look at the time and now is when I'm able to post!

It's been crazy around here with all of the last minute details.

But I finally made it :)

So with this said I welcome you to the 2010 'Mad Tea Party'.

Thanks to Vanessa Valencia from 'A Fanciful Twist', our gracious hostess for this magnificent event. This is the third year that madness has captured us with whirls, letting us all join in friendship all around the world through the magnificent world of blogging.

So sit back! Grab a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the journey as you hop from blog to blog enjoying all of the great mad parties :)

For this year's Mad Party I decided on making a few miniature Topsy Turvy Mad Cakes. They are made from air dry clay and painted with acrylics. They look so real I've caught myself once or twice trying to give them a little bite...LOL

This little old lady is another one of my mother-in-law's latest creations. She was a dolly intended for the Christmas Season but I thought that for this occasion she would do just fine. You can see more of her creations at Addis Creations.

The chair/shop which she is sitting on is another one of my creations for the Tiny Faerie collection. This is a little dress shop for Tiny Faerie Dresses.

This is one of my favorite Tea Pots that I own. The Alice in Wonderland theme is just too cute which inspired me as well to create the following.

All of the little ornaments below are inspired by the Alice in Wonderland movies, be either the latest version by Tim Burton or the more classical version by Disney.

These little guest are just too cute. I had so much fun helping them pick the right costume from the movies, or just simply creating a new version for this party.

This year I also created a Top Hat for this great event. The top hat featured above is the 2009 Mad Tea Party Hat. For the 2010 Hat (below) I decided to go with a more simple look, by just using one wide piece of ribbon.

As I created this hat I also took fhotos of the process which I made into a tutorial that is available on a PDF File in mt Etsy Shop.

Some of the goodies that I have created for this party are available for sale either on my Etsy store or eBay page.

Chilled Wind also made an appereance at the party along with several other guests. You might know some of them since they were also present at the 2009 Mad Tea Party.

Now the best part!! Desserts!

We had such a great array of delicious treats.

Petit Fours, Pink Snow Balls, Mini Strawberry Cheesecakes, and Mini Cheesecakes. Let me tell you that today I broke my diet SO SO bad! LOL

And since I'm feeling so gracious today I'm going to share the recipe for two of the desserts that I made for this occasion

The first one is the Mini Strawberry Cheesecakes that you see in the picture above. These little personalized desserts were the hit of the party.

Mini Strawberry Cheesecakes:

What you will need!

1 pkg. (8 oz) PHILADELPHIA Neufchatel Cheese, softened

1 pkg. (3.4) JELL-O Strawberry Creme Flavor Instant Puddding

1 cup cold fat-free milk

2 cups thawed COOL WHIP LITE Whipped Topping

24 NILLA wafers

1 cup sliced fresh strawbeeries

To Make it!

1. Beat Neufchatel with mixer until creamy. Blend in dry pudding mix. Gradually beat in milk. Stir in COOL WHIP.

2. Place 1 wafer on bottom of each of 24 (2-inch) paper baking cups; place in muffin pan. Cover with pudding mixture.

3. Freeze 1 hr....Top with berries just before serving.

Mini Cheesecakes

What you need!!

2 pkg. (8 oz. each) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened.

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 tsp. vanilla

2 eggs

12 OREO Chocolate Sandwich Cookies (I used the blond ones)

1 kiwi, peeled, cut into 6 slices (I used raspberries only)

36 blue berries

12 raspberries

To Make it!

Preheat oven 350 degrees.

1. Beat crean cheese, sugar and vanilla in a large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Ad eggs, 1 at a time, beating on low speed after each addition just until blended.

2. Place 1 cookie in bottom of each of 12 medium paper-lined muffin cups. Fill evenly with batter.

3. Bake 20 min. or until centers are almost set. Cool. Refrigirate 3 hr. or overnight. Cut kiwi slices in half. Top each cheesecake with 1 kiwi half, 3 blue berries and 1 raspberry just before serving.

And of course after so MUCH work it's only fair to take a break and enjoy the delights displayed ;)

I love strawberry desserts!!! Specially if they are topes with fresh strwberries...yumm!!

New way of scrapbooking!! Digitally!!

Hi Everyone!

Wanted to share one of my newest projects. Recently I was introduced to Digital Scrapbooking by both my sister and sister-in-law. Let me tell you that I love it!! I created four pages within an hour time. That has been the fasted I've ever scrapbkooked ever. But what I really like about scrapbooking digitally is that I can do it from my computer!! I don't have to buy tools and materials to work on albums. I just create my pages and order them in an album or individually. Also, all of the stickers, papers, embellishments and such can be reused over and over. Just wonderful!!!!

I'm so excited that I thought I share it with everyone :)

Cuban Cuisine BLOG ANYONE?

WOW!! It's been a while since I last posted. I really need to get into the habit of updating my blog more often. Shame on me!! Anyhow, I have a new idea brewing in the back of my head and I wanted to get your opinion on the matter.

I don't know if many of you know but I'm originally from Cuba, and like any other Cuban girl in my family we are taught to cook at a very early age. So with this in mind I thought of creating a Blog about Cuban Cuisine. My goal is to post at least four recipes a month with pictures and directions as to how to cook delicious Cuban recipes. Mind you all of these recipes have been in my family for generations and I thought it would be awesome to share them with other people out there.

So, with this said, I look forward to hearing from you :)

Celebrating One World One Heart 2010 Giveaway!

Her hair is custom hand made of the highest quality of Tibetan Lambs Wool in a soft pink color into a tiny wig, and on her head she wears a burlesque head piece made from white lace and ostrich feathers accented with a swarovski crystal. Her eyes are iridescent glass beads which give her an ethereal appearance. The face has been hand painted and sealed.

Faerie also comes with her hand sculpted stand/base accented with Faerie dust.

IDEX 2010

Well, I can actually say that I'm half way recovered from IDEX!

I attended IDEX for the first time with The Professional Doll Makers Art Guild which I am a member of. Let me tell you that we have an amazing group of artists. I had such great experience, met so many new people and learned so much from all of my fellow artists. Everyone was so nice and giving! I will treasure my first experience with them at the show forever.

I have some exciting news to share with everyone!

Lately I've been in dealings with two major projects as far as my art career is concerned.

One is a book and the other one is a huge art project.

B.A.C.E European Communities Artists Library just published another book "Contemporary Women Artists" and I was invited to participate in it. One copy will be sent to the Congress Library, to the Women Museum in Washington, DC and to the Rutgers University Library which specializes in Women studies. I'm so happy and excited that I can't keep still.

Here are photos of the inside of the book.

The Art project that I'm currently involved in is called "Landfillart".

This is an art project that will have the participation of 1,041 artists from all over the world. The idea is very creative and innovative. I know that once it's completed the result will be of a grand scale. I already received my hubcap and I will be posting my WIP as I go so you can see the process.

A New Year and so much to do!

I welcome 2010!!

I hope that this year brings everyone so many good things.

I have so many goals that I want to meet before the year is out. Yes, I know that we are at the beginning, but a year goes by so fast before we know it.

I have a list of goals....LOL

I figured that if I write everything down and start scratching off as I complete each item then I am good.

1) Loose weight...at least two sizes.

2) Finish writing my paranormal novel and send it to a publisher.

3) Complete the "Sisters" art doll project.

I know that it's not a long list but I figured that if I make it too long I might get overwhelmed and not complete it. So, keeping my fingers crossed here I go!

Today being the first of the year I started by going to see AVATAR. OMG!! What an experience! I have to say that this is one of the best movies that I've seen in a long time. I was captivated by the plot and all the beautiful things that I saw in the world of Pandora, where the movie is based on.

This is a must see movie for all of those fantasy junkies like me. I found drama, romance and action all combined in one. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD! Yes, that's right...this one is a must buy as well. I know that before it's taken out of the theaters, I will go and see it again ;)

Fun way to make a neat storage box (tutorial)

I found a way of making my own storage boxes for those fragile little items that I can't just put anywhere of fear that they might break. Not only are these boxes super easy to do, they are also very inexpensive when it comes to materials. We at my house have a soft spot for the Ferrro Collection chocolates. This Holiday Season alone we have consumed about 4 boxes and December is not even done yet :(

Materials you will need

1 box of FERRERO COLLECTION chocolates

(I personally like the 32 count of chocolate spaces)

1 12x12 scrapbook page

A good amount of polyfill

Stickers of your choice

I first like to go ahead and wash the box and tray with soap and water, while I'm washing it I remove the brand stickers very carefully so I don't scratch the box. Once the box and tray dry then I proceed to the next step.

I get my 12x12 scrapbook page and cut it to fit the inside of the box. You can choose any style or design that you like.

Since the box is a bit over the 6", I just used the shorter side and placed it on the side that faces the tray.

Now comes the tedious part of the whole project. With the polyfill, start filling the spaces on the tray, try not to put too much polyfill in each space. Remember that you want the items that you store to fit just right and look nestled in.

Now is the fun part. Place the stickers however you want them on the top of the lid of the box. For my boxes I prefer to use flower stickers which give the box a very sweet and feminine look.

These are the latest boxes that I've made.

Christmas Decorations around my house (part 1)

I finally finished with all of the decorations around the house! I am exhausted!

I will begin with my bedroom. Here I only put up a small tree decorated in the main color (brown, ivory and gold)theme of my bedroom. My vanity is the perfect place for this little guy. The ornaments consist of brown Christmas balls and some of my Disney Enesco collectibles in ivory and gold.

I will post more photos of the rest of the house in a few days.

Greetings!

Thank you so much for stopping by my 'Witch' themed Halloween Extravaganza party!

This year Vanessa Valencia from 'A Fanciful Twist' has once again called out for bloggers all over the world to join her on a great celebration. I of course couldn't resist once again and decided to join. So I gathered a few of my Witchy Gals and enjoyed a great afternoon of merriment.

Thank you my dearies for such and event and wanting to play dress up with me.

I couldn't have done it without any of you :)

Even my black ladies lamp made an appearance all dressed with Witch Hats and Capes. These girls have been with me for over 14 years and are very dear to me; they were a present from my parents just before I got married.

Oranges dressed as Jack-O-Lanterns made their debut introducing a delicious fruit salad to our Witch guests.

I created this pumpkin stand to go along with a beautifully dressed Witch. So far she's only in sketch stage though. Hopefully she will make an appearance within the next few weeks just in time for Halloween.

This is by far one of the favorite new items that I acquired this year for Halloween. They are 'Trembling Toads' which sing the cutest song!

My Halloween Costume for 2009

I finally found the right Halloween Costume for this year. As you all must know by now, I'm all crazy about Witches. Those pointy hats just make me go absolutely crazy. I can't wait to wear this costume for my sister's Halloween Party Oct. 31st. So far the guest list hit the 40th mark.

October is here!!! Let the Halloween planning begin!

Today officially the so awaited Black and Orange month begins!

I have so much scheduled for the month of October that just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

So while I laid on my bed, I figured I might as well put my "thinking stockings" on. I know a lot of people prefer to put on a thinking hat, but my orange and black stripes stockings sound so much better...hehehe, specially if the thinking in question is mostly related to Halloween.

So I propped my legs up on the headboard of my bed and grabbed a bag of Halloween Gummy Berries and began to brainstorm.

I will list my schedule below and all the things that I have to work on so you can see what I mean.

So much work!!!!

1) Have to finish the Halloween Wire Tree tutorial.

(I want for those that are interested in it to be able to have it early in the month)

2) Have to finish ADO Halloween Challenge Art Doll.

(the deadline for completion is almost here!)

3) Have to finish the final touches for the Halloween Extravaganza Party on the 17th. I have decided to do a "Witch" themed party. A few of us girls will put our black hats on that day to share a day filled of fun.

(Will have the party on the 10th so I have enough time to post the photos)

4) Have to finish the "Sisters" project for one of my customers.

5) Have a Making Strides against breast cancer Walk on the 24th.

6) Help sister plan a Halloween Party from afar for the weekend of Halloween.

Talk about having my hands full. I know that I have left out a few things that will come to mind eventually. I just hope that I can do all of it and still have fun at the same time.

Halloween Tree & Ornaments

I finally finished my Wire Halloween Tree!!! YAY!!

It took me quite a while to finally finish this tree, it seemed that for some reason I always had to do something or something that got in the way. After many hours of planning and working it's finally here and I couldn't be happier.

I will put a tutorial on how to make this tree sometime in the month of October so make sure you visit often :)

Wonderful items I found at the Craft Show in Melbourne FL.

Today I took a break and decided to go to a Craft Show offered by the Women's Club in Melbourne FL. at the Melbourne Auditorium. The day was perfect for such an excursion so without delay I headed over to see the wonderful items offered there.

The auditorium is not very big but the space was enough to have quite a bit of vendors offering their hand crafted items.

I thought these characters were very interesting by far!

In this booth the artist Mary A. Gibbs offered her 'Personal Touch Ceramics'. I thought these were so cute I decided to buy some of the smaller pumpkins for my Halloween Extravaganza Party!

Then several rows over an array of colors caught my eye. As I got closer I saw that the items were characters made with polymer clay. You can just imagine my excitement when I saw all of these little hand made crafts. They were so adorable!!

To my delight the owner of the booth and Artist responsible for creating these little wonders was sitting to the side of her booth creating more small little pumpkins out of polymer for everyone to see. Her name is Helen Terlalis Dorn and she's the wonder behind such creations.

The images below are from another booth that I went to, owned by Scully's Arts & Crafts. The blue marble looking items in this container are actually 'Water Beads'. These water beads come looking like the no holes beads in several colors. You add water to them over night and in the morning you have hydrated water beads to use for your flowers of plants. I bought a small bag of orange water beads which I plan to use at my Halloween Extravaganza Party. Will take photos of the ones I bought and let you know how they look.

I really had a great time and I'm hoping to go next year again.
